High Speed Multimedia Radio (HSMM)

Hi Everyone,

I’m excited to announce a new project that the Peel Amateur Radio club is undertaking. PARC has started to become involved in high speed multimedia mesh or HSMM. The club is currently part of a project where our repeater location is being linked to the Mississauga repeater location via HSMM on a ham band allocation of 2.3 GHz. Currently, this initiative has been worked on by Anthony VA3IDL, our repeater director Dave DKX, and, Bob VE3CWU.

This link with Mississauga is only the beginning. The goal is to link various the repeaters in the GTA west in a mesh network. This mesh network could serve as a backbone for only IP based communication, and it also opens up possibilities for services we are currently not involved in.

We’ve also received indication from the City of Brampton, that they would be interested PARC having a capability where we could deliver high resolution video (still or live) with geolocation data. Since HSMM conceivably has the bandwidth capable of delivering this kind of data rate, creating a mobile setup that allows for video streaming, VOIP like voice communication, and geolocation data, I am calling upon club members to participate in a special interest group that would undertake research and development in this project, along with any other HSMM initiatives.

For those of you interested in getting involved in HSMM, please take the time to join the new HSMM Yahoo Group by visting this page https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/parchsmm/info or email your request to join using this email: parchsmm-subscribe@yahoogroups.com.

I look forward to your participation!
