Main Club Meeting for March 2016

Hi Gang,

This is just a reminder that tomorrow (March 1st, 2016) is our main club meeting – same time, same place – 7:30pm at the Fletcher’s Creek Sportsplex.

Along with announcements on club business – there will be an introduction  to Asterisk – a voice-over-ip phone system that is used in business, but has adaptations in Amateur Radio use.  The presentation will be high level – meaning – we won’t be diving in deep with setting up Asterisk or administrating a custom Asterisk setup.  The presentation will be a more gentle introduction to Asterisk – what it is, what it does, and how it is finding use in Amateur Radio.  The implementation of Asterisk that will be shown is a commercial product that will be eventually implemented on the mesh network.  You’ll see how calls happen over a network, and how you can bring together voice and video communications on a computer, and a mobile phone.  A future presentation will cover a setup of Asterisk as a radio repeater and controller.  At the end of the presentation, if you are interested in being able to participate on communicating via Asterisk, and you have access to mesh, bring a laptop that you would use on mesh, and an Asterisk extension will be set up for you, and software can be installed on your laptop.

Also, if anyone is interested in doing a show and tell on any projects you are working on – please feel free to do so.  Also let me know if you need to do any club announcements.

See you all tomorrow!
