Each year the ARES section of the club holds at least one Simulated Emergency Test (SET) to examine their emergency preparedness. The latest was held Saturday November 7th and was run in conjunction with many other ARES groups throughout the RAC GTA section.
Setup began at 8:00 AM with the club trailer towed into position while various club members checked in with the net controller and were then assigned to go to a variety of locations throughout Brampton. At these locations, used as simulated shelters, they were then instructed to create and send formal NTS messages to the trailer where operators were awaiting these messages.
These messages were then relayed on to the relevant recipients using both voice and digital modes. The trailer performed well, with all power supplied from the club generator and both of the dual band radios put to good use.
Twelve PARC members participated in the operation which was concluded at noon. A lunch followed afterwards along with a debriefing which examined the events of the day, providing lessons learned to make the next exercise even more successful. Thanks to all those who participated.
