Our Packet system is back on the air after a little a little hiatus. Turn your TNC or Soundcard TNC and radio on to 145.010 simplex at 1200 baud and get started.

Here’s the current setup:

Our Node – connect to VE3PRC. This gives you access to a range of features. Try them out – explore.
Our BBS – Connect to VE3PRC-2. This puts you on our F6FBB Mail System and Bulletin Board. Here you can leave mail, read mail, create and read bulletins, and create and read NTS traffic. Mail forwarding happens automatically between our system and the VA3BAL systems.
Winlink – connect to VE3PRC-10. We now have a full Winlink RMS service on our packet system. While designed as an Emcomm system, it is useable anytime. It allows email service between packet radio and the Internet. “When all else fails …”

WHAT: Course for Basic License
WHEN Orientation – January 26th at 7:30pm. Classses February 25th and 26th 8am to 5pm.
WHERE: Orientation and Classes at Brampton Safe City Offices, 16 George St N in Brampton

WHAT: Course for Advanced License

Call of the Titanic will go out again …

The Halifax Chronicle-Herald has an article concerning a re-enactment of the distress call of the Titanic. As you probably know, Titanic sent “CQD”, which was the older distress signal (CQ-Distress??). Apparently the operator later sent the new ‘SOS”.

Maybe we can have a little contest to see which Club members hear the ‘CQD”!

PARC Linux Net takes to the Air

Our Linux Activity group leader, Joe Almeida, VA3POR, has started a new Linux Discussion net. It is being held on our VHF repeater every Thursday night. Tune in to VE3PRC (146.880) at 8:00 PM to join the discussion.

Joe will take questions on air, but you might want to email him at va3por”at”rac.ca with your specific questions. Also, if you have experimented with Linux, or are a genuine Linux guru, you might be able to help out others.

This sounds like a great new Net – way to go, Joe!

How FLEX-ible are you?

First, Happy New Year!

Now, how would you like to learn all about the new Flex Radios? Did Santa leave you a nice gift certificate, or anything? Regardless, come on out to our first Club meeting of 2012. Our good friend, Steve, from RadioWorld, is going to demonstrate the newest Flex Radios. Sounds like lots of fun and temptation, too!

See you at Fletchers Sportplex at 7:30 PM on Tuesday, January 3, 2012! Maybe join the guys beforehand at Fionn McCool’s for a pint and some nosh, too

Friday Breakfast will be on Thursday!

Because of the Christmas and New Years weekends, the regular Friday morning breakfast group will take place a day earlier – on the Thursday !! We’re talking Thursday, December 22 and again on the 29th. So, don’t forget! And also remember that our 9:00 AM gathering time seems to have moved up closer to 8:30! (These guys need new alarm clocks!)

In January, we’ll go back to Friday.

Give VE3UPR repeater a try!

Whenever you are travelling in the North part of Brampton, or in Caledon, why not give the VE3UPR repeater a try? It is a UHF machine, with its antenna high above the Caledon hills! Tune to 443.600 (+ve offset), with a 103.5 tone, and give a shout-out!

PARC Receives Appreciation Award

At the recent Christmas Dinner, the Peel Amateur Radio Club was given a Certificate of Appreciation for its community services over many years. In this photo, Alain Normand, CEMC, and emergency planner for The City of Brampton, presents the Club with a Certificate of Appreciation for community service. Accepting the award are Club President George Duffield and Emergency Coordinator Richard Upfield.

Under its ARES leadership, the Club has worked with the City on many events, like the big New Years Eve celebration and Canada Day. Additionally, the Club supplies communications expertise for community events like the MS Walk, Walk for the Cure, and many others.

The Peel Amateur Radio Club traditionally holds a Holiday Dinner meeting for members, spouses and friends. This year, we met at The Mandarin Restaurant located at Hurontario and Matheson in Mississauga. We had a big turnout, enjoyed really good food, good camaraderie, and generally had a wonderful time. It was especially nice to have our spouses and friends with us. (It’s amazing how much improved our Club looks with the spouses and friends in attendance!)

We were very pleased to have Brampton’s CEMC, Alain Normand, and his wife, Nicole, join us. The Club is proud of its association with The City of Brampton.

We wish everyone a very Merry Christmas, and a Happy New Year.
