April 20, 2013Field Day Results 2012
November 1, 2012While Peel ARC not only took the title of Top Canadian in the four transmitter (4A) category in the 2012 Field Day, ranking 11th out of 168 entries, putting us in the top 7% of all North American stations in our category, we also moved up considerably in the overall standing, ranking first among all stations in Canada, regardless of the category. Our score was 9118 points based on 2539 contacts.
This is the highest score and ranking ever achieved by PARC in its history and is due, in no small part, to the great effort by many people, all of whom should feel very proud of their efforts. Congratulations to all and here’s hoping we do even better in 2013.

MS Walk 2012
May 12, 2012Sunday April 22nd was a rather cool day but it didn’t dampen the spirits of the many walkers in the latest MS Walk-a-thon. In support of this effort, eleven members of PARC again provided communications assistance over the entire course, utilizing the local VHF repeater. No serious incidents were encountered but, as usual, we were there if anything had happened.
Those participating included: Paul VA3PB, Joe VA3POR, Kelly VE3VGP, Pam VA3PAM, Henry VE3LEM, Bernie VE3OTR, Gabe VE3BDE, Richard VA3RMU, Don VE3REO, Bob VE3UBM and Vic VE3FOX, some of whom are pictured below.

Organizers thanked the members for their assistance and presented them with a certificate to recognize their contribution.
Updated CANWARN Schedule
April 5, 2012Geoff Coulson has issued an updated CANWARN training schedule:
——————————
Folks, lots of new information to pass along including confirmation of some of the training locations and the addition of new training sites. Thanks to generous support from Fanshawe College, our London training will be done in a room on their campus this year. CANWARN 2012 Training Schedule – Release 1
March 9, 2012Hello, everyone, after a winter that wasn’t in many parts of the province, it is time to turn our attention to the renewed possibility of extended stretches of true spring-like weather. Along with milder temperatures and longer days will come the increased chance of severe thunderstorms in Ontario. And so once again, it is time to release the first glance at the upcoming CANWARN storm spotter training sessions. Some work is still required to confirm exact venues in some locations but the dates are provided for planning purposes and the venues will be firmed up in the coming weeks in future releases.
Once again, I thank all of you for being part of this very important program. Your reports in the last year have continued to provide valuable “on-the-ground” information to the Ontario Storm Prediction Centre. This also represents CANWARN’s 25th year in Ontario. It all began in Windsor back in 1987 and we have seen the program grow significantly in the last number of years. So please join us if you can at a training session near you.
As in past years, I would ask you to RSVP me at geoff.coulson@ec.gc.ca to let me know which session you plan on attending so we can get a sense of the numbers of attendees at each location. So here they are, the dates/venues as things stand now. Dates and venues in June for Northwestern Ontario will be forthcoming in future releases.

Peel ARC Hats Available
March 9, 2012You have probably seen some of your friends wearing their VE3PRC PARC ball cap! Well, if you don’t yet have one, here is your chance.
The hats are well made with an adjustable strap, so one size really does fit all. The tan colour matches the PARC golf shirts, too. Lots of the folks have had their callsign embroidered on the back of the hat. It is easy to arrange, if you want to do that, too.
You can order one of our PARC hats from Richard Upfield for the low price of $20.
(Will you look as good as our stylish model? Di-di-di-dit Di-dit)
Thank you, CIBC!
March 9, 2012We would like to express out sincere thanks to Lynne Gutteridge and the CIBC Retirees Ambassador Program for its generous donation to The Peel Amateur Radio Club to help support our Emergency Programs and planning.
Don McPhee, our Acting President has said “We at the Peel Amateur Radio Club work diligently to maintain communication preparedness that hopefully is never required. The group is called ARES, Amateur Radio Emergency Services. One test of our Emergency Preparedness is held the last weekend of June every year and is called Field Day. We operate from tents and on battery power as if a major catastrophe has crippled the usual infrastructure. In 2011 we stood Third in all of Canada in our division. Your donation will help us maintain the highest standards, just like CIBC does.”
Thank you, CIBC!
Check out our new “Wiki”
January 29, 2012Thanks for Joe, VA3POR, we have a new Wiki. You access it by clicking on the heading at the top of our pages. It will open in a new page or tab in your browser. (You can click here, too.)
Right now, the entries concern ARES and Net Control features. More things will be added as time goes on.
What is a Wiki? Well, the word comes from Hawaiian. It means quick or fast. It is a web oriented device that is easily set up and modified. Our Wiki will be used to document procedures for the club and its ventures.
One of the most popular Wikis is Wikipedia. If you want to learn more about Wikis, go there and read about Wiki.
Hey! Remember Packet? It’s Back! * Updated*
January 23, 2012Our Packet system is back on the air after a little a little hiatus. Turn your TNC or Soundcard TNC and radio on to 145.010 simplex at 1200 baud and get started.
Here’s the current setup:
- Our Node – connect to VE3PRC. This gives you access to a range of features. Try them out – explore.
- Our BBS – Connect to VE3PRC-2. This puts you on our F6FBB Mail System and Bulletin Board. Here you can leave mail, read mail, create and read bulletins, and create and read NTS traffic. Mail forwarding happens automatically between our system and the VA3BAL systems.
- Winlink – connect to VE3PRC-10. We now have a full Winlink RMS service on our packet system. While designed as an Emcomm system, it is useable anytime. It allows email service between packet radio and the Internet. “When all else fails …”
Have fun!
